The Project Bällebad was a semester project cooperated with the solar bench brand JK-Ergoline, who is the biggist solar bench manufacturer in Europe. The purpose of the project was to help the company develop new ideas for the existing product line, which contain not only the product design methods, also the strategies for the market.
Marketing & Research
Sunbed use took place predominately in
followed by fitness studio(10.1%)
and Swimming pool/ Saunas (7.9%).
In contrast, sunbed at home(3.8%),
and medical facilities(0.6%)
were less frequently used.
Idea & Development
As the analysis of existing market, the most customers are hotels or fitniss studios. Can we mind the market deeply directly to the user?
The design concept Bällebad is trying to introduce the usage of solarbank to the users at home, which means the user can easily buy the little unit and put into to bathtub and enjoy the experience.
This product transfer the business from B-to-B to B-to-C and have the potential to expand the market.
The design project focused on the optimization of the service process, which was concluded and analysed in an AIDAP model, namely Awareness, Interest, Desire, Action and Post Action process. The service was integrated with the concepts of user community and in-house usage via an App and a new form of sunbed product.
Idea & User Scenario
Direct to customer
The B to C concept makes sure that the solar-bank can be with a ideal logistik method to be delivered to the user directly. The customers can easily find the product in any retail terminal.
Enjoy at home
The customer can buy packages depending on their own demand and enjoy the sunbathing, instead in fitniss studios, hotels, or other organizations, easily at home.
Cleaning and recharging
The product should be strong enough and waterproof ,and inaddition mechanical charging, so that users can seaily put the products into the washmachine for cleaning and recharging.
App & Service Design
The App design was based on the structure of service mentioned above. The visual user interface design followed the information structure shown below and the visual identity of the company.
Idea & Form Research
With the research of the polyhedron in Rhino 5 comes the variants that can interact with the points and the reflection on a sphere. The more possibilities there are, the better the form evolves. After that I chose the best ones and developed them further
Premodel is the necessary process of product design as it can show the possibilities to get the ideal shape. The polyhedron is an ideal direction for the „ball bath“, but with the premodel, there are several variants. The designer should consider this in order to balance the advantages and the disadvantages.
Design & Details
In Ball‘s design, due to the product language, several curves are used, so the sphere looks soft to show accessibility and tactility. The goledene curves are not only patten but also the Matel structure, so that they can support the weight and stress, because the OLED surface is weak and easy to be destroied.
